New Instrumental Christmas Recording

Hey everybody! Two posts in one day?!?! Can you believe it?! I just found out about a new Christmas recording that you might like. You can hear some samples here. After listening to the samples, you can enter to win a free copy of the recording here. Good luck!

Recent Holiday Happenings

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are enjoying the Christmas season! We have enjoyed the time with family (recently Kris' sister and her husband and boys) and are looking forward to days ahead when my parents come to visit. We have taken all the Fall decorations down and are slowly continuing the Christmas decorating of our new home. The tree got done last weekend and several things put around the house. Kris has been out today doing some outdoor lights and things. I have a few more things to do. It's looking festive around here!

So, it's been a while since I last wrote anything here (surprised?). Hah! Again, fac*book has become my #1 computer means of letting people know how we are doing. I mentioned in my last post that I was enjoying the beginning of Fall. As we now near the end of Fall, I am noticing quite a bit of nice color around this area and have been pleasantly surprised. For the last couple of weeks, I have enjoyed seeing several trees become more beautiful than I think I have noticed since we moved here over two years ago. Part of it, I believe, is that our neighborhood is not that old, and the trees are quite young. This year several of them began to burst with beautiful color, and I've been loving it! I'm glad they planted the kind they did here. We are about at the peak or just past now though. It's still funny to me to have warm temps in Dec while seeing Fall color and Christmas decorations all at the same time.

A very special event that we recently celebrated was our sweet Emma's b-day. I just posted a whole album of birthday pics on facebook. Here is one in case you aren't on that site:

She is growing into a sweet young lady, and we thank God for her! She brings such joy to our lives. I must admit that this is a bittersweet time as I watch her slowly grow out of being a little girl and into a young woman. Time does fly by though, and I am trying to cherish each moment and stage of my girls' lives!

Well, I could go on and on about the last couple of months, but I will spare you all the details. Just know that God is good all the time, and He continues to teach us more of Himself in all areas of our lives. We do covet your prayers for us and the church God has called us to. We are at a crossroads of looking to see what to do in the near future for further community outreach, possible location change (no specific plans yet), etc. We need God's wisdom and help to make choices that will be to and for His glory!

It's Fall! Well, or so they tell me. . .

Happy Fall, everyone! I hope yours has started out well. Mine started with a day at Laguna Beach, studying tide pools with the girls and our Girl Scout friends. Unfortunately the first day of Autumn for me included my first ever bee sting. :-( Other than that, it was a beautiful day!

I still am not quite used to SoCal "Fall." There are very few deciduous trees right around us, and they don't show their color until January! Palm trees have their own beauty, but I miss my Maples. In the mountains there are places we can go in the next month or so that will have color similar to what I enjoyed growing up in MI. My ideal family outing in Autumn consists of getting cider and doughnuts, picking pumpkins, going on a hayride, and enjoying a bonfire during the crisp, cool evening. Some of those things can't happen here either because of their not existing or the danger that they would cause. Just the other day we were up in the San Bernardino Mtns., and the fire danger sign read "High." I will look into how to have a fun, family day here this season and see how many of my ideal elements of Fall can be experienced. Thankfully I have wonderful memories of MI. I can see the blazing colors in my mind (and in pictures we have), almost smell the leaves and/or wood burning, and pretend to feel the chill in the air (instead of 90+ degrees). Kris thinks I'm trying to recreate those MI temps in our house. Ha ha I don't think setting the air on 74 degrees is too low though, and he thinks 76 (or even 77) would be great, but we've compromised at 75. Anyway, I'm going to get out our Fall decorations in the next day or so and plan for some seasonal foods.

Hello out there!

Did your RSS Feeder just go into shock upon seeing I have a blog post? :-) I was encouraged by a friend this morning to get back on and post something. After a real pain of trying to figure out how to do a new layout, I am able to post. Last time I wrote, I described "a whirlwind of a month" we had been having. I feel that I can describe the last SEVERAL months as being a bit of a whirlwind. . .Hah--even the last year! I can hardly believe that it is even possibly the middle of September! Here are some things that have happened since I last posted:

-We moved into our new house June 1.
-The unpacking and setting up of the house began (and is still going on).
-My aunt and uncle came out to SoCal for a conference, and we were able to spend time off and on with them for a few days in June.
-I had changed us over to "year round" schooling, so we worked on school for a couple of weeks.
-Emma went to summer camp in the desert and had a blast the last week of June/beginning of July.
-We went on an amazing vacation to MI for almost 2 1/2 weeks in July.
-Came home from MI, and we worked on another week of school.
-First week of August we enjoyed having friends from SC, the Thompson family, come out to help our church with canvasing the area.
-We finished our school year by the middle of August and took a little break.
-Last week we started our new school year. I have a 5th grader and a 2nd grader this year--WOW!

I'm obviously skipping many other details, but life is moving right along, and as always, our God is good through every bit of it. We've seen real challenges from vehicle problems this summer to saying "goodbye" to four core people at our church who moved East, and all the while we have experienced God's grace given for those things. We have known several blessings such as finding the house, spending time with family and friends we love that live so far away, ministry opportunities with people God has brought into our lives, as well as our own family being ministered to by loving people here.

Lately a theme has come up "coincidentally" (yeah, right) in several places (girls' SS lessons, Bible lesson for school, Scripture reading Sun. morning in the service), and that is the steadfast love of our God. I've been greatly encouraged by meditating on this truth recently. I would encourage you to sit and read Psalm 103 when you get a chance. We have a great God!

Until next time, whenever that may be. . . . :-)

A Whirlwind of a Month

The last month has been exciting, frustrating, wonderful, and difficult--a time to grow and depend on our great God more. The month has flown by, and I don't think we could have packed one more thing into it. I know many of you think we are crazy. :-) Me too! Ha ha My sister is here right now with her 2 children and will have 2 weeks with us. I am thrilled, but I just feel badly about all that is going on and will have to go on while she is here. Read on to the bottom for explanation of what the rest of the month holds.

Since I last posted, we had a church planter's ministry summit for SoCal and Nevada pastors and their families. We had a great time! A good friend of ours, Nicole Fortney, watched all of the children at the conference because her husband is overseas as a Marine serving our country. She wanted to have ministry opportunities while he was gone and contacted us to see if we needed help with our church. The ministry summit had just come up, and we found out it would involve the families, not just the pastors, this year. Everything fell into place for Nicole to come and help out, and she was a huge blessing to all of us! She was able to stay with us a few days before and then after the conference, and God gave us a wonderful time of encouragement and fellowship.

Two days after Nicole left, our dear friends, Michael and Jenny Muth, came from MI with their two boys and stayed with us for 10 days. We were so excited that God provided unbelievable prices on airline tickets for them. The Muths are like family to us, and we had the greatest time just hanging out, seeing how their kids are growing and changing, watching our kids interacting with them, etc. We even got to do some fun activities like going to the Aquarium of the Pacific and San Diego's Wild Animal Park. Jenny is a Pampered Chef consultant, and I was able to host a show for her too while they were here. It was awesome, and I LOVE the products that I was able to get because of doing a show! Overall, just being together was so encouraging for all of us. We thank God for great friends!

So the frustrations and difficulties? They have come mostly from the process of trying to buy a house here. We put an offer on a short sale at the end of Dec. We knew it would take quite a bit of time, but there have been unexpected problems along the way, mostly in the last 3 weeks. I won't get into all the confusing details here, but basically the seller has been dishonest and very difficult to work with recently. The listing agent also did some things that were wrong in the last week or so, and all of this has kept us from closing by the end of April and having to pay for another month of rent. We are reminded that none of this took God by surprise, and He is in control of all things. It has been a hassle for us, and we are sad to see people act the way they have, but we are trusting God. Thankfully tonight we had our walk through, and we should have possession of the house by Fri. We will have a lot of trash to clean out of the house and major cleaning, unlike I have ever seen needed. :-( Carpet needs to be replaced as well before we can move in. I can't wait to make it all fresh and new with a good cleaning and painting. Beyond the junk is a beautiful house in good condition! A lot needs to be done, and my sister is here, but hey, we have until the end of May to move in. I need to take one day at a time. God is providing, and I thank Him so much!

Works of God Monday

I pray that you all had a blessed Easter Sunday, celebrating our risen Savior. We had a wonderful day yesterday. In Sunday school we were challenged in the area of worship. We also had a very special service and were excited to have 3 new people visit with us at HBC. The music, Scripture readings, and the preaching of God's word was a joy to be part of, as we were constantly pointed to our great God and the amazing love of Jesus Christ. We were reminded that the reason we come together each Sunday is to celebrate and worship our risen Lord. I am so thankful for God's love and grace to me. His mercy too is overwhelming, and I praise Him for the salvation offered to us because of Christ's work on the cross and power of His resurrection.

I do want to update you on my Aunt Sue. Today she went home to Heaven. Thank you for your prayers. It has been a shock to have just found out on Wed. that she was even sick, hear her diagnosis a couple of days later, and then lose her today. I am so glad that she does not have to suffer though. Please pray for my dad and his siblings. My dad is one of eight children. They have now lost two sisters and one brother. I know that my dad would like to share his heart at the funeral, and that would include the gospel. Please pray for those who may not yet know Christ as personal Savior, that God may use even this difficult time to draw people to Himself. Our family appreciates your prayers.

Four Stabilizing Truths

This is something that Ken Collier from The WILDS Christian Camp in NC put together. It is so interesting to me that last Sunday morning Kris decided to talk through these truths with us in Sunday School. It was so good to go to these passages from God's word and discuss the application of them. We weren't "supposed" to be doing that for SS, but Kris realized we were going to have a very small group together and didn't want to do Part 2 of his previous week's lesson with so many gone. I know the Lord led him to this:

1. God's LOVE for me is unchanging.
*Jeremiah 31:3--The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.

2. God's PURPOSE for me is Christlikeness.
*Romans 8:28-29--And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

3. God's WORD to me is the final, right answer.
*2 Peter 1:3-4 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

4. God's GRACE for me is sufficient.
*2 Corinthians 12:9-10--But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

This past week especially has involved a roller coaster of emotions. I shared in my previous post some prayer requests and the sadness that accompanied those circumstances. We also have had great joy this week in focusing on Christ's salvation offered to us because of His work on the cross and preparing for Easter tomorrow. And yesterday we received good news that the short sale house that we put an offer on at the beginning of Jan. has finally gone to the approved state with the lender. Our agent has ordered an appraisal, home inspection, etc. for us now. We hope to close at the end of this month! With all of these different things happening in a matter of four days, I feel a bit like a pendulum swinging back and forth. Thinking of these four stabilizing truths has been extremely helpful to me this week. I love God's timing! I need to keep remembering God's word through all the other change and events ahead of us. The next two months were already going to be full, and now to add a move on top of it will call for extra grace and strength. I know the Lord gives just what we need.

Update: Aunt Sue did make it through the last couple of nights. She is going to be taken to a hospice care facility now. We appreciate your continued prayers.

Prayer Requests

Sometimes it seems that bad news comes all at once. That seems to be how the last few days have gone. . .

On Tuesday we got a call from dear friends in our church that the husband was given a diagnosis of prostate cancer that day. The doctor said it is a more aggressive form than the typical kind they find, but they don't know if it has spread anywhere else. Our prayer is definitely that it is contained and can be removed with surgery. Tests over the next two weeks will provide more answers. Please pray for Brian and his family. We praise God for their testimony and know that their trust is in Him!

On Wednesday my mom called to tell me about a friend who fell down some stairs in town and hit her face on a metal box that has underground wires in it. She had to have 30 stitches and has two black eyes. This poor woman just lost her husband two weeks ago. My parents received that call while they were here visiting us and were so sad. They had to miss the funeral. Please pray for Shirley as so much has happened in a short amount of time for her. She is a believer.

In the same conversation with my mom yesterday, she also told me of a family friend who is having a serious problem that may require surgery and could change his life. He has been miserable and very sick, not able to eat much. Please pray for John. He also knows the Lord and has a wonderful testimony for Him.

My mom called again yesterday to inform me that my Aunt Sue, one of my dad's sisters, is in the hospital and very serious with what they have found out is a rare lung condition. The only hope is a double lung transplant. I was shocked to hear this as I didn't know anything was wrong with her. My dad called me today to say that Aunt Sue had gotten even worse, and the doctor told the family to call anyone that was not there to be with her. He wasn't sure that she would make it through tonight. I have not received another call. I pray that something can be done for her! I certainly hate to hear of how she is suffering even to get each breath. My dad was able to call her last night to talk and pray with her. He said that she did not sound good at all. He sounded very broken up on the phone today. My dad has lost two other siblings. We are praying for God's will to be done with Aunt Sue. Our desire is that she recover and be fine, but we do want what is best for her and trust God to know what that is. From what I have heard, she knows Christ as Savior. Many in my family do not, so please pray for spiritual needs as well as physical.

Thank you for your prayers. I'm so glad that we have a sovereign God. His way is perfect. We trust in Him.

Spring Haiku

My friend, Jenny, loves poetry and is hosting a haiku challenge on her blog. She will be giving away a free Pamp*red Ch*f product to one person. Here is what I left in her comment section:

Spring equals "achoo"
Beautiful flowers abound
Thankful for Zyrt*c
:-)

It's funny because Emma just learned about how to write a haiku this year. She wrote one this winter. Here it is:

Snowman

White from head to toe
Bundled up in scarf and hat
Icy cold is he

She made a cute snowman on her paper too. :-)

Works of God Monday

Kris was putting door hangers out in the community last summer, and a lady who received one contacted us. She shared that just days before getting our info. she had been thinking about the necessity of finding a church to go to and thought it would be good to "enroll" her daughter in Sunday School. She was contacting us to find out what she needed to do to have her daughter come. We gladly told her that they could just come. Their family had not been to a church, but there was some religious background with this mom going to church in her younger years. She really has wanted to know God and believes He has a purpose for her/their lives. What a wonderful opportunity we have had to show Christ's love to this family and point them to our great God. Her little girl is close in age to Olivia. We have enjoyed having another child join us for Sunday school and children's church and have loved sharing God's Word with her. It has been exciting to watch this little girl grow and understand more of the Bible. I am so happy to say that yesterday, she wanted to trust Jesus as her Savior and prayed with the children's Sunday school teacher!
Please pray for us as we have continued opportunity to reach out to this family. May Christ be the One seen and glorified!

A Child's Opinion on Age

This morning I called a family in our church and needed to ask the mom a question. She wasn't available because last night she was out shopping with her daughter and didn't get to bed until around 1 AM, so she was still asleep. Olivia was near me when I called, so I explained the situation to her. I then told her how fun it will be one day when she's older and we go out together on shopping trips. In all serious (and even with a look of concern) she says to me, "But Mom, when I am a teenager, you will be an OLD lady!" Wow! Maybe she thinks it's a super long time until she's a teenager. I know that it will come sooner than I can imagine, and I sure am cherishing this time in her life and the funny comments that she comes up with.

Making Memories

We just enjoyed a wonderful visit from my parents that seemed to end all too soon. They came at a beautiful time of year! The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and the views of the mountains were spectacular--not always possible during the year due to our smoggy area. We first enjoyed driving across and seeing the desert, as I went out to AZ to pick my mom and dad up there from my aunt's house. We also went to the mountains and the beach while they were here. It was just a great variety of landscapes and temperatures all so close to where we live.

I am so thankful for the fact that my parents have been able to come out to see us 3 times since we moved to CA. It's hard to live this far away from family, but God has blessed us in being able to spend more time together than any of us probably ever anticipated since we left MI. We were able to be with them in SC this past Nov., and we are all making plans to have a family reunion in MI this summer. I'm so glad that my girls know and love the only grandparents that they have. This morning was difficult for them when they woke up and knew that Grammy and Papa were gone. They had a sweet time of goodbyes last night though, and today we reminded ourselves to focus on what we did have and not dwell on what we don't. Here are some of the pics of them all enjoying time together during the last 11 days, starting with the most recent:

Enjoying refreshments during the intermission of the girls' play that they made up and put on for us

Enjoying a ride at Disneyland

Afternoon in the mountains where we saw snow and visited Lake Arrowhead

Beautiful Sights

Here is what we have been able to see all around us since the storms of last week have passed:

We like to drive up a local hill to get a panoramic view of the mountains surrounding the valley. Here you can see the San Bernardino Mountains to the left and the peak of another straight out. I think it is San Jacinto.

Big Bear is a big winter sports area that we have yet to visit. You can see it here--the biggest peak, I believe, all covered in snow.

This gives another shot of the San Bernardino Mountains just further to my left. A family from our church lives up there and drives down to worship with us each week.

Here is where the San Gabriel Mountains and the San Bernardino Mountains meet. The Cajon Pass runs between them.

Zooming in on the beautiful San Gabriels

Same view, zoomed out

Driving back down the hill, I asked Kris to stop so that I could get this shot of the palm trees against the snow-covered mountains. Nice combination, eh? We have a lot of variety in this area!

Another view of the San Gabriel Mountains as we were headed home. The green you see here is only going to be like that for a short while. Normally everything is brown. This is our "green time" of year!

Works of God Monday

Ten years ago today our hearts broke with the news that Kris's mom had passed away. While there was deep grief that day, there was also a relief that we felt knowing that Mom was not going to suffer one more day. She went home to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Knowing that God does not make a mistake and has a plan better than we could ever understand brought peace in the midst of a very difficult storm. What an amazing blessing to have God's Word, His sustaining grace and strength, a wonderful pastor who came right over and shared Scripture and prayed with us, as well as godly family and friends who were so loving and helpful during that time! Mom had been battling cancer for almost 3 1/2 years, but now she could rest. She was only 57 (5 days away from 58) years old. Emma was 7 weeks old the day Mom died. We are so thankful that Mom got to have Christmas with all of the family just weeks before passing away. She met Emma and gave her a beautifully crocheted "baby" blanket that she made and finished that week we were all together. The blanket is actually huge and is folded at the end of Emma's full-sized bed. We will treasure it always!

Today we made a special effort to remember Grandma Stephens with the girls. We shared fun stories and memories. We made some of Mom's delicious recipes, written in her handwriting for me to show the girls, and watched the little bit of video that we took of her during that Christmas trip. We had just bought a new camcorder because we were becoming parents and didn't want to miss anything. :-) I just wish we had kept it on more during those last moments we had with Mom. We are thankful though for what was captured on tape! The girls enjoyed watching Mom and Dad, as he is gone too, and getting a true glimpse of what they were like--hearing the sound of their voices speaking and laughing, watching them interact with different family members. It was a special day today, and I am so thankful that Kris can tell our girls of the godly heritage that they have. God is good, all the time!

What's Shakin'?

Well, there has been a little too much shakin' going on, in my opinion. I was awakened this morning at approx. 4 AM due to a 4.3 earthquake. Now I know that the veteran Californians think that it's no big deal, and I know that 4.3 is considered a "light earthquake," but it is the 2nd one we've had this week! This past Mon. during dinner we had a 4.3 as well. Thankfully the epicenter for both were not directly under us to make it scarier and/or have anything fall. I had trouble getting back to sleep and had to go check this site that gives excellent info. on CA earthquakes. I found out that I wasn't crazy. Btw, as you look at that map, are you surprised at how frequent the earthquakes are? I was when I found out last year. We have so many on a regular basis but most are considered "micro earthquakes."

Last Jan. we experienced a 4.5 quake that was within a short distance from us and it shook us pretty good. We watched our grandfather clock, CD towers, etc. just rattle like crazy! Typically though, earthquakes of this magnitude do no damage. A friend from church who has grown up here told me on Tues. morning that it sure seems like there have been more earthquakes over 4.0 since we moved here than she can last remember. Wonderful! :-) I haven't even talked to her about this morning's. We personally have experienced SEVEN earthquakes that could be felt since we arrived in SoCal. Two of those were under 4.0 though. I'm just glad that none were bigger than that 5.4 we experienced within a couple of weeks of our move. For this all still being so new, it is so unnerving to think of the earth shifting and shaking everything. I definitely struggle with that fear of damage, more specifically loss of life, that could occur from a strong earthquake. We certainly have seen what can happen, as we watch all of this coverage on Haiti's disaster. Thankfully we have strict building codes here though that would protect us better. But really, Who is our Protector? I just need to remember Who God is and claim His promises! Psalm 46 came to mind this morning. If anything else, being awakened suddenly with the rumbling sound and some light shaking of things, I was reminded once again to pray for the people of Haiti. That's a good thing!

Praying for Haiti

My heart (as I'm sure yours is as well) has been so heavy for the people of Haiti. I've watched the incredible coverage done by CNN over the last few days and cried over people's suffering, rejoiced at rescues, and prayed for these poor people going through unimaginable trials. We've also praised God for the finding of people we know who are in Haiti and their safety through it all.

I also think of the spiritual needs of the Haitian people and pray that they will hear the Gospel and trust Christ Who loves them and can heal them. We know that God is sovereignly in control of all things and is good at all times. I came across two things that I want to share with you this morning:

1. Please read this whole article.

2. I found this on Holly Straton's facebook today--Jesus is in your house of mourning, dear Haitians. "He is w/ you in your bereaved grief. He goes w/ you to the grave to weep. Spiritual blessings will bloom around that grave, far more beautiful than flowers w/ which you deck it, if your sorrow draws you to Christ, making you acquainted w/ Him, the weeping & sympathizing Savior, the loving Friend & Brother, born for this crushing adversity." -O.Winslow

Works of God Monday

Romans 8:28--And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. ESV

I am thanking God today for these truths from His word. We started our family Bible memory for 2010 with this verse. God has given us good opportunities in the last week to be reminded of what this verse teaches us, as we have been challenged personally as well as heard of friends who are going through deep trials at this time. I pray that we all will have our confidence in God and remember that He makes no mistakes! He often sees and knows things that we know nothing of and is working His perfect will for our lives. We may think things are bad, or not how we would want them, but all of it works for our good (conforming us to Jesus Christ). That is the best thing possible for us. May God be glorified through every circumstance of our lives!

Our Start to 2010

Well, I hope 2010 has started well for you. We enjoyed New Year's Eve and coming into the new year by hanging out at home with the girls, playing some games, and watching a movie. We even went out front and took some pics before the Christmas decorations were to come down:

The girls were fading as the evening wore on, but they would get a burst of energy (probably from our laughing at Night at the Muse*m) and then assure us that they were going to make it until midnight. :-) Here they are trying to stay awake:

Well, they made it! Here is the first picture of 2010:

We enjoyed sleeping in and taking it easy on New Year's Day. Of course football was on, and I made wings for Kris, using the new Buffal* Wild Wings sauce (Caribbean Jerk) that I got him as a stocking stuffer. I enjoyed them too! The girls stuck with mild sauces. :-) Then as the weekend went on, we took the Christmas decorations down and started getting the house back in order. We had a great first Sunday of the new year with an introduction to our theme for the year--Love God! Love People! Kris took that Sunday to teach specifically on loving God and then today on loving people. Of course we want to grow in these areas and see these commands from Jesus lived out by His grace well beyond 2010!

A big step taken at the beginning of this year was putting an offer on a house! We still have not heard anything because it is a short sale (normally these take many months), but we did find out that a previous offer had been put on the same house in September. Those people pulled out, but it got the paperwork going. That means we may not have as long of a wait. We appreciate your prayers on this matter.

Before getting back into the swing of things with school, we took the girls to Disneyl*nd for a day of fun. I surprised them by asking our friend, Ruth, to join us. The girls didn't find out Ruth was coming until the morning we were going. They were very excited! Another exciting thing about the day was that Olivia got to ride Californi* Screamin' (an awesome roller coaster) in Disn*y's California Adventure. She's been waiting to be tall enough, and she finally measured up! :-) This roller coaster launches you so fast at the beginning and even goes upside down, but it is one of the smoothest roller coasters ever made. It is definitely a family favorite! I'll end with some pics from our day at Disn*y:

Emma and I always try to make a different silly face each time we ride. :-)

Olivia was NOT tall enough for the Maliboomer, so she and I watched.

Some of the Christmas decorations were still up!

End of Another Year, Another Decade

Can you believe that we are ending the first decade in the new millennium? Do you remember the hype of Y2K and our wondering if the world was going to shut down? :-) It's amazing to look back at the last 10 years of our lives and be overwhelmed at the goodness of our God. We have experienced huge change, several times. We rejoiced in becoming parents, grieved over losing parents, moved to 2 different states/ministries since SC, said "goodbye" to friends and family, made new friends, etc. Lots of change, but our God has never changed! He has taught us more of Himself, and with and by His grace, we have been stretched and grown over the years. Life is about Him and His glory, and we pray that we have and will continue to live that out. God is always good, in all circumstances! We have prayed Philippians 3:10 many times and watched how God has answered our desire to know Him better in ways we could have never imagined. Those ways have not always been easy, but we know they are good (Romans 8:28). It is always good for us to be conformed to the image of Christ. We look forward to seeing God continue to work in the next decade. Let's follow the two greatest commands, as spoken by Jesus in Matthew 22:37-40--Love God! Love People!

As the last couple of hours of 2009 come to a close, we sit with our girls having fun playing games and watching fun things on TV, but most importantly, we stop to thank God for what He has done and look ahead to a new year, new decade of trusting Him! May you come to know Him and/or continue to grow in your knowledge of Him and have a very Happy New Year!!!

Works of God Monday

God has blessed us with a wonderful daughter who turned 10 yrs. old today! Yes, she has hit the double digits. It's hard to believe that we have been parents for a decade. We celebrated the day by giving her a new bike in the morning and then heading to Disneyland. Of all days to rain and be "cold" in SoCal, it was today. We had a memorable experience, to say the least. We made sure that we had fun though. Here are a couple of pics from the day. I'll have to write more later because I am exhausted and ready to go to bed.
